Why this must be read:
When I first read this story and every time I've read it since, I always start out thinking the first person POV is going to bother me.
It never, ever does.
The author here uses it wonderfully, with Dan's inner monologue actually sounding like Dan. There's arguing over Steve Miller Band lyrics and a recounting of the First Time. There's Dan's agent and phrases that sound like you're lying even if you're telling the truth. There's a few mentions of Tom Waits, some angst, Casey's missing socks and Dan's Bogart impression. Mostly, there's a story here that should definitely be read.
