A Wind In The Palms, by Julian Lee
Fandom: WEST WING
Pairing: Sam/Lisa, Josh/Sam, Josh/Donna
Author on LJ:
julianlee
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/thwarted1066/index.html
Why this must be read:
This is, perhaps, as close as West Wing fandom gets to 'the quintessential AU'. The fandom as a whole doesn't have very many, but even if it did, I suspect this oen would still beat most of them hands-down.
It diverges from canon at one of the great What If? points in the show - Josh turning up at Sam's office in New York. In canon, Josh turns up, Sam leaves his job and his fiance to run away with him, and the rest is history. In this fic, Josh... well, did quite a few things, actually, but turning up to get Sam was not one of them. It's really nice to see a 'what if?' answered so well; it's believeable, and interesting, with lots of lovely characterisation and the high standard of writing that West Wing is famous for. It rules.
In fact, there are only one thing I'm a little iffy about with this fic. The formatting on the story seems to be a bit off, and I can't find a different link. Hopefully that's just me, but if it's not, you may want to copy and paste the fic into Word or something to read it, so the Line Breaks From Hell don't drive you nuts.
