Sharp as a Knife by Jen (NC-17)
Fandom: OZ
Pairing: Ryan O'Reily/Nikolai Stanislofsky
Author on LJ: ???
Why this must be read: It's a sharp, entertaining spin on one of Oz's great matchups: O'Reily v. Stanislofsky
I wish Tom Fontana had kept Stanislofsky around longer. It was good for Ryan to have a worthy competitor in gamesmanship and manipulation. This story, beginning with "Sharp as a Knife" and running through "Control" shows a Ryan both threatened and intrigued by his adversary. We get an inside look at the always churning, ever alert brains of Oz's master players as they bob and weave, trying to stay ahead, stay on top, stay sane. And deal with the scariest foil of all: Claire Howell.
He underestimated Nikolai. The guy was like Rasputin, fought every decent attempt to take him out. Without backup. Ryan used to have that distinction with pride, only con in Em City who took 'em all out using brains and the brainless around him. Now he had another independent operator to worry about. He hated him. His accent, his smirk, his constant blue jeans and his survival skills. Like those rats in the kitchen, or the roaches always crawling around his apartment as a kid. Stomp, spray, take your fucking pick, and they go right back in their holes.
Another component Ryan had to admit he enjoyed, thoughts strumming through his head as he went to look for Cyril, was the thrill of battle. That fucked up sense of loathing, pure adrenaline coursing through your veins and usually stopping somewhere between your legs. Same adrenaline he felt at the thought of killing him.
It's a fine line, Ryan. Be careful where you step!

I have tried to branch out from just B/K, but the majority of non-B/K fics that I've read have already been recommended. Did you read "Detente," which was recced (http://www.livejournal.com/community/crack_van/521117.html) here in May?
It doesn't slash R/N, but it's a great read nonetheless.
