Why this must be read: Popslash was at one point extremely enamoured of the boyband member turns into a girl thing and this is one of the earlier examples of this. I've always found it odd how we all took to this mini-genre and I haven't always enjoyed the stories, sometimes feeling like they rely to heavily on the "will he still love me when I'm a boy again?" tension. Wax's story, while certainly having moments of that, always feels like it's about a lot more. This time it's Justin that turns into a girl and the things he learns about himself are all very insightful both re: differences between men and women and his character I really enjoy that her Justin has to go find something to do with himself in his transformed state rather than just loll about and fall in love. The experiences Justin has, from work to sex (esp. the Britney stuff), are funny and poignant and feel as real as something inherently unreal can. The relationship with Chris, which is one of my favorite examples of my otp, is really just icing on the cake. I think I'd like the story even as gen. But, I'm glad it's not because they're emotionally complex and soinlove and fun just the way I like them. Wax's writing is sharp and never wastes any words but still manages to get exactly to the truth of things. So, that's it. Go, read.
