Why this must be read: Warnings first... (1) This is waaaaaay AU. Although Brian and Justin seem to be the same as the show, Michael is written differently -- a more spunky, more confident gay man, sans the whininess and the nerdiness. This why there is a different Brian/Michael dynamic as well as the mind-boggling possibility of a threesome between the three main characters, and (2) this is far from finished. But this has been in WIP status for about a year or so, without any new chapters added to this day.
But it is so briliant in concept as well as writing that I didn;t want to pass up the chance to rec this. It is quirky, fun and in part, very sexy and hot. Here is an excerpt, where this particular AU lays its own spin on the trio that make up the core of Queer as Folk:
The story muttered in your ear over drinks at Woody’s went like this:
Both boys were natives of the Pittsburgh and had, in fact, know each other for a few years in high school. In the middle of his sophomore year, Michael was forced to move to New York State with his mother, and only returned ten years later. In the meanwhile, Brian had left for college for four years, then returned, taking Liberty Avenue like some marauding conqueror, his goal to bed every attractive and unattractive gay male within city limits. He seemed well on his way to achieving this goal when here came Michael, fresh out of college himself and starting a successful climb up the corporate ladder.
Those who were witnesses to the momentous meeting of these long ago acquaintances often referred to it as equivalent to two stars entering each others’ orbit. They would either explode, or form a binary system.
Brian had started out by trying to seduce Michael, which hadn’t worked at all. There were a few months of uneasiness when Babylon had TWO conquerors seemingly set on razing the population in their quest to be the center of attention. Then, miraculously, they were friends.
Two years later, they were roommates.
No one knew for sure if they had actually slept together, although urban legend had it that they did a rare threesome, although no true witnesses were ever found that could corroborate the story. By and large, most people figured they were two predators sharing a territory, putting up with each other because they had to.
Brian was the beautiful one, a hazel-eyed cat that stalked and seized what he wanted. He was unerringly a top, which thrilled most and disappointed some. Michael, on the other hand, was everyone’s perfect example of a man who could top from the bottom with unique mastery. He knew exactly what he wanted and how he wanted it, and his lovers held onto him as long as they were able, which was usually no longer than a week before he grew restless and moved on.
It's disappointing that it hasn't been finished but hey, if you get enchanted by this fic, then maybe you can beg the author to finish it.
