Every Mother's Son by Brighid E. Stone (R)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: none (Jayne and Simon, gen )
Author on LJ:
brighidestone
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:
I was fascinated by the development of the dynamic between Simon and Jayne during the course of the series, and I'm hoping that the movie will get to explore this dynamic further. Until then, I'll probably be reading and re-reading this short, lovely piece. The characterization is brilliant, and there's a rhythm to this story--with its gentle shifts through time, and its perfect, vivid details--that makes me *feel* these two characters at a completely emotional level. My explanation can't do this piece justice; this story is just one of those fanfic gems that I feel lucky to have found.
