This is a post-rift story. Lex goes back to Smallville to attend Jonathan Kent's funeral. While Clark is not happy to see Lex there, he is also drawn to him like a moth to the light.

"What did you do after your father died?" Clark asked once they were underway. He was staring out the windshield, unblinking. They could have been on the way to Clark's school, if only Clark had been carrying a backpack of books; even in his mourning suit, he looked as young-old as ever.

"Got drunk, got fucked, started a fight and got beaten up," Lex said. "I can only offer you two out of three, though."

RivkaT does an excellent job of showing us Lex's state of mind as he examines his own relationship with Jonathan and how Clark's grief, despite their no longer being friends, affects him.

In the midst of grief, hope emerges...and hot sex. *eg*
