"Through a Glass Darkly," by Apocrypha (R)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: none
Author's Webpage: Apocrypha
Author on LJ: not that I can find.
Why this must be read:
More fun with the quantum mirror. Well, not "fun" exactly, because mirror universes are usually big with the angst, but more excellent explorations of what might-have-been. The hook in this story, the focused-on point of divergence is Daniel -- a Daniel who endured a harsher fosterage (as many fans have often speculated), who never developed wacky theories about the pyramids, who joined the Marines, and never deciphered the Giza cartouche. The ripple effects of one person alone are enough to make for a much darker SGC - and there are other ugly surprises in store for "our" SG-1 as they try to get back home before entropic cascade failure kicks in.
One (very) small caveat - there is a slight overuse of "Danny" coming out of Jack's mouth, but it's not egregious, and since it's my pet peeve, if it doesn't bother you, you'll have no problems.
Through a Glass Darkly
The author also has a sequel wherein a very shaken SG-1 deal with the scars from their encounter, but I find this first story to be superior, and it works as a stand-alone.

- Yes, I love that they changed him so much, and yet kept him still so much himself. It's what made it so, so creepy. Thanks for commenting!
