Because although fanon frequently makes Erik Lehnsherr a teacher at Xavier's school in its early days, there are few stories that actually look at his relationship with the students who will one day be his enemies. This one is a lovely look at Jean on the edge of adulthood, feeling her way toward an adult friendship with her complicated mentor and worrying as his relationship with Charles Xavier begins to fall apart.
