Hi! I'm Dzurlady and I'm driving sailing the Crack Van POTC recs for November. My main pairing is Sparrington, but I'll be reccing other pairings as well.

Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: Ultimatly James/Jack; hints of Will/Elizabeth and James/Groves; attempted everybody (and I mean *everybody*)/Jack.

Why this must be read:

This fic has many attractions - it's funny, Jack's voice and his reactions to what happen to him are spot on, and it's just plain fun. "Bewigged, Bothered, and Bewildered" is the_dala's (highly amusing) version of the Buffy episode "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". After Jack complains about his inability to find true love, he is finds himself irresistable to everyone he meets - well, almost everyone. This sets the stage for some hilarious situations and a humourous look at some of the pairing conventions in this fandom.

"I love you, Jack" said Will throatily, caressing Jack’s jawline with his thumbs. "I’ve loved you since the beginning, only I never knew it..."

Jack lifted his hands, having to grab onto the front of Will’s shirt to keep himself from falling over again. "Now wait just a minute, lad – think ‘bout how ridiculous that sounds," he said breathlessly, snapping his teeth in warning when Will looked as though he was swooping in for another go. "You’re mate to Lizzie’s soul, and y’ don’t even like men."

Will’s lower lip stuck out in a pout, and Jack hated himself for it, but he very much enjoyed the sight. "I could like men," said the boy sulkily. "You don’t know. Perhaps I’ve been having shameful dreams about the commodore since puberty."


It's unrated; I'd give it an R, although it does vary from section to section.

the_dala said that this fic is what happens when she has rice in her taco instead of beans, and after reading this I'm sure you'll agree that she should eat rice more often.

I'm glad! I *love* the_dala's fic. She's a very talented writer who always has something different in her fics. If I could, I would just spend this month reccing her work, but I've restrained myself to this fic and one other (look out for it in the upcoming weeks). However, since you enjoyed it, perhaps you would like the other fic I considered for this rec, As you were (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=the_dala&keyword=As+You+Were&filter=all). This focus of this story is not the smut (gasp!) - it's about the plot, which is a rather cool horror/supernatural mystery kind've deal. It's a Buffy/POTC crossover, although it is more accurate to say "Buffyverse/POTC" since Buffy doesn't appear, but rather the slayer of the time, Claire, and her watcher, Aiden (whom I adore). The real star of this piece, however, is The Pearl who seriously kicks ass.
The main pairing is Jack/James, but Will/Elizabeth also makes an appearance and there is certainly a willingness on Aiden's part for there to be Aiden/Claire...
