Why this must be read:
Seth liked Saturdays. He liked Saturdays a lot. Saturdays were good days, maybe even the best day in the entire week. It wasn't only the lack of school, although it was, yeah, mostly the lack of school. By noon on this Saturday, he had already taken Darrah Mcleod for her sailing lesson and beaten the Moscow level in Tony Hawk Underground. He was just starting in on his second breakfast, a bowl of Lucky Charms, and trying to decide whether he should wait for Ryan to wake up before he started the extended version of The Two Towers, or whether he should watch Fellowship of the Ring first anyway, when Ryan wandered into the kitchen, barefoot and half-asleep.
Okay, this is a bit of a change of pace. Summer/Seth is a favorite of mine, and while it's not restricted to a sort of fun carefree stories the pairing often suggests, it certainly is a plus. I like them because Summer's irreverance plays so well off Seth's sarcasm, making for witty and fast-paced dialogue. Like in this story.
Summer takes Seth shopping, an activity that can be harrowing even with the most experienced of mall-goers. On top of that, Summer just declared for the public (well, Ryan) that Seth was her boyfriend, and informs the boy that they're going to a party. With other people there. Together. It's a lot to take in. But in the end, there are sweet kisses in a clothing store. And red really isn't Seth's colour.
