Dancing on a Friday Night by Jen (PG-13)
Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Pairing: Warren/Jonathan
Author on LJ:
jenoofer
Author Website: Subdued
Why this must be read:
This pairing rarely works for me, but Jen makes it work so well in this fic that I had to rec it. It's AU but only slightly so and remains entirely convincing throughout. I love both Warren and Jonathan in this fic - they are true to the characters on the show and yet we see them interact as we never did (which is a shame).
After the bell-tower fiasco and the subsequent moment in the spotlight handing Buffy her umbrella at the Prom, Jonathan finds himself dateless and annoyed, and finds Warren in a similar situation. There follows drink and drunkenness and hanging out in a parked car...
“She, um, saved me.” The words juts lined themselves up and tumbled from his tongue by themselves. Or so it seemed to Jonathan, who had no intention of giving the real reason for his being chosen to present Buffy’s award. “There was a thing. In the bell tower. I had a gun.” There was a scuff on the toe of his left shoe, he realised, as he focused intently on the floor, on anything but this guy's suddenly curious expression.
“I heard about that. You’re Jonathan.” Jonathan waited for the usual questions that always came whenever someone realised he was ‘that kid from the bell tower’.
But no question was forthcoming. When he looked up, Jonathan was surprised to see the guy once more scanning the crowd with that same distracted look on his face. “I’m Warren. You wanna get outta here?”
