Postcards from Edge by Elizabeth (PG-13)
Fandom: ROSWELL
Pairing: Maria/Max
Author on LJ: uhmidont
Author Website: http://www.ficorama.net
Why this must be read:
I'm very tempted to do a weekly Elizabeth pic, because it's so hard to choose just *one* of her roswellfics. I so love this piece, it was the first Roswellfic that ever made me cry.
It takes place during the summer between first and second season, after Tess takes off in "Destiny," after Michael tells Maria that he loves her "too much" to be with her, and when Liz goes to Florida to get away from everything. Maria and Max start spending time together, first serving as substitutes as each other's ex and as time pass they become far more than either relationship ever managed - they become friends.
I was a hardcore Michael/Maria 'shipper until I saw the beauty of Max and Maria. Elizabeth draws them both so starkly here, so beautiful, so sad and lonely. You root for them the whole time, even though you know it can't stay - they won't stay. But like the postcard snapshots on your wall, you're happy just to have a reminder of a once-perfect time.
