Why this must be read:
A wonderful look at Pippin as he is learning about sex, love, relationships, and also responsibility. Though in some ways the focus is on sex, this is not a PWP; Stranger has clearly thought about how hobbits might handle sexual relationships, what standards and expectations they might have. She has created a Shire in which it is believable that young hobbits would be allowed a certain amount of sexual exploration without making it seem like just a convenient plot device for a lot of hobbit smut. (Though the smut is quite good, too!) The story uses both Pippin's and Merry's points of view, and I love learning about Pippin from himself and from Merry. The rich details about daily life in the the rural Shire are fascinating and help make this a vivid, memorable story.
