Let me just preface this by saying I'm not a particular fan of BDSM fic. However, in the "Hero" series, the sex and the kink co-exist wonderfully with some of the most exquisite schmoop it has ever been my pleasure to read. And the kink is almost intellectualized; it does not exist simply to titillate (although it does that very well). I must admit, I actually learned a lot about BDSM from reading these stories since Clark and Lex actually talk about why they like the things they like. I also learned a little bit about Kansas law as it applies to underage and same-sex relationships, because in the fourth story in the series, "Justice: With a Vengeance," Lex and Clark actually get caught, and Lex lands in jail. The court scene in this story is particulary well-done, with Clark and Lex's pain laid bare for all to see.

My favorite in the series is the fifth and final story, "Truths," which is is a fabulous hurt/comfort fic with Clark gravely injured and Lex racing against time searching for a cure. I highly recommend this series if you a looking for something a little different, as it is an intelligently written and emotionally intense ride.
