Why this must be read:
I've had a great time careering the Van through the Forests of Beleriand, I hope you've enjoyed it too! If you're hooked, nearly all of the authors I've brought to your attention have a wide portfolio of other Silmfics to delight the reader, and loads more Silm goodies are to be found c/o the links at the end of my fandom summary. Oh, and do please remember to send feedback to the authors if you've enjoyed their stories!
For my last recommendation, I'm going with a 'Sillymarillion' story which succintly summarises many of the events of the First Age---as a television news broadcast. It's one of those all-or-nothing ideas that, in the hands of a less-skilled writer, could so easily have been wince-inducing, but Erunyauve really pulls it off, and the result is hilarious from start to finish.
"It is quiet tonight in Arvernien. But only hours ago this sanctuary was under attack as Fëanorian militants struck at Doriathrin refugees. For the third time in less than a millennium, ethnic violence flared between the Noldorin sect and the Teleri. For more on the story, we go to Celeborn at the Havens."
"Thanks, Elrond. At the heart of the dispute between these two peoples is ownership of the Silmaril, an object of religious and historical significance to both these peoples. As we understand it, that artifact was lost in the fighting today."
"Will this put an end to the violence?"
"Well, the Teleri certainly hope so, but my heart tells me that we won't see a resolution to this conflict for at least a half-century."
