To Rise Above by Jb (PG)
Hello all! I'm [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I'll be driving the Stargate SG-1 van for you in February. I tend to read a wide variety of fics, although I do have some authors that I read repeatedly. So for my first rec, I give you a Daniel-centric fic with Jack and Daniel friendship overtones.
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: The Tablet
Why this must be read: The events in this story take place shortly after Beast of Burden. Daniel is struggling with his actions with Chaka and the consequences of them, coming to terms with the fact that things don't always work out the way he plans. Of course, this is a common problem for Daniel... honestly believing that nothing he tries will ever work out.
When Jack tries to talk to Daniel about the incident, he learns that Daniel has recently obtained his pilot's license and the resulting day trip turns into more than Daniel bargained for as far as lessons that can be learned.
I love that Jb is able to write Daniel in situations such as these. He's able to grasp the turmoil that goes on inside the character and captures it wonderfully on paper. Jb also expresses the friendship between Jack and Daniel. Jack tries to offer 'help' to his friend in really the only way Jack can.
