Man Bites Dog by Saffron Bailey (PG-13)
Fandom: HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET
Pairing: n/a
Author on LJ:
domarzione
Author Website: http://dmzfic.b0x.com/
Why this must be read:
For my money, Domenika Marzone, who wrote Homicide fanfic under the pen name Saffron Bailey, is the best Homicide fanfic writer ever, and this story is a perfect example of why. Man Bites Dog is the rare Homicide fanfic that reads like a long-lost episode, albeit one set in an AU. Man Bites Dog follows the return of Stan Bolander to Homicide after his suspension and Pembleton's stroke. The underlying theme is partnership, as Munch celebrates the Big Man's return, Mike and Meldrick engage in their usual hijinks, Tim sits by an unconscious Frank's bedside, and Kay waits in vain for Beau to return. The writing is skillful, the dialogue is spot-on, and the characterization is perfect. What's not to love?
