Why this must be read: First of all, it's something written bythete1. Second, it's thete1 writing Ethan Rayne. Thirdly, it's Ethan, and Kurt, at the *circus*.
So if you're like me, while watching X2 it didn't escape you that Kurts kind of a cutter. It also didn't escape you that those are holy symbols cut into his flesh. Now, it's unlikely that anyone in the actual X2 universe would ever do anything with that. Though the comics occasionally diverged onto mystical paths the movie seems rather straightforwardly scientific in nature. That's why we have fanfiction.
Now enter Ethan Rayne. Ethan who seems to really get off on pain (both his and others (I submit how ::excited:: he is to see Ripper when all he ever does is beat the shite out of him)), Ethan who seems to perform his magic with heavy ritual (vs. the loose ritual Willow seems to prefer), Ethan who inscribed himself with an otherworldly mark (Eyegon's tattoo). I think it's fairly obvious that Ethan would be fascinated by Kurt. First in a physical way, due to the Angelic symbols and then later, he'd enjoy how Kurt is such a mixture of naivete and cynicism.
If mature sorcerers doing what they do best turns your crank (mmm, Giles, Ethan, Gandalf) this is the fic for you. And you have at anytime had a thing for Movie! Kurt, this is him at his core, before the movie and the awful things he did.
