The Seven Deadly Virtuals by Penny Dreadful (R)
Fandom: BLAKE'S 7
Pairing: Um, sort of Travis/ocf, only not really.
Author on LJ:
archibishopm
Author Website: On-Line Fan Fiction
Why this must be read:
I'd kind of intended not to repeat the same authors in my recs this month, but a lot of the stories it's crossed my mind to rec have already been done, and, while Penny's output isn't very high, it's uniformly brilliant, and I really don't think her stuff has been pimped on here often enough.
In a way, recommending this story almost feels like cheating, because in a sense it's almost not a B7 fic at all. It's more of a meta... thing... that, uh... You know what? I can't even really describe it. Which is, well, why it must simply be read. That, of course, and the fact that it's well-written, creative, clever, wonderfully funny, and actually a very good piece of science fiction.
Here's a small taste:

Here's a small taste:
I must confess, I might not have even considered going to the Anachronistic AllDoll™ Aficionado Association's Thriteenth Annual Convention, had not the emotional climate in our household been what it was when the fateful envelope arrived. But it was what it was, and so I was grateful for any excuse to leave my significant other at home alone for a couple of days.
He had been even more insufferable than usual, you see, since that Sunday afternoon when he had come back from golfing quite a bit earlier than expected, and discovered me in an extremely compromising position with my brand-new custom-made fully-functional AllDoll™.
The timing was really rather unfortunate. You see I had received Travis (that's my doll—yes, he was modelled after a television character by that name. No, I don't imagine you'll have heard of it) at least a month ago, but then there had been the big chip of instructions, and those problems after I inserted the batteries incorrectly, to say nothing of Arnold's wedding, and the ants. In short, this was the first time I felt I might have actually worked out all the kinks.
Pun intended.
And then Stan walks in.
