Why this must be read: I liked the way time and place is worked in this story. By switching both the povs and chronology, the reader is allowed to know both men's perspectives as the action unfolds. The pain each man feels, one physical, one emotional, is an echo of the other.

There's a preciseness to PR Zed's writing that allows feeling through without a lot of clutter. So, though those feelings are sparingly remarked upon, especially Napoleon's, they are always there, like an undercurrent quietly flowing beneath the words. It makes for a powerfully emotional story. And I absolutely adore the last line.

Oh, and did I mention it was written for me? :-)

I don't know how I missed this one but - wow! I love the understatement which masks the intensity of feeling. Thanks for the rec.
