Why this must be read: I really like this fic because every time I re-read it I find something new I like. There was an explosion of Seth/Trey fic after Trey’s debut episodes. This one is very, very high on the list of great Seth/Trey fics. (Trey is Ryan’s older brother. See the family resemblance? Neither do I. Trey was in jail for stealing a car. He moved into the Cohen’s poolhouse for a while.)
"You were hanging out with Trey last night?" Ryan asks slowly.
"Um, yeaaah."
"Do you guys, like, hang out often?" Ryan scratches the inside of his elbow, and looks a little uncomfortable when he asks this.
"Why do you wanna know? Yes. Eh, no. Sometimes. Lately," Seth answers, quietly, drawing circles in spilled milk.
"I thought you wanted me to get together with Marissa." Seth’s head snaps up and he hears a crack resonate from the vicinity of his neck.
"Dude. I did. I do. I mean, it’s great. Really. It’s just that I thought all four of us together would be like before, you know? But not so much, it seems. We’ve changed," he swipes at the spilt milk with a tissue and takes his bowl to the sink. Ryan looks at Seth with an expression he really can’t quite read, then his whole stature kind of deflates.
"You got any plans for today?"
"Yes. Summer has booked my day to the brim. I’ve got a break during noon and another at six. I think."
Ryan says, "Oh," slightly disappointed, and on top of that, he looks relieved, Seth thinks.
