Why this must be read:
This was one of the first fics I read in the X-men fandom. It's AU, but it's got feeling to it. It goes back to the Labs and brings them into the plot line. JJ is an great author and pulls this off amazingly well, like she always does. I'd recommend anything by here - though this is by far my favorite. It's full of sad heartbreak and just the right amount of sunbreaks. It's worth the long haul it takes to read it.
It didn’t work. She peeked out of the corner of her eye, seeing the front end of an unfamiliar truck. It stopped. She bolted across an open lot, the snow piled in drifts here, making it hard to run. The closest building was quite a ways up the hill. Well, shit! Picking this road to turn down looked like it was proving to be a terrible mistake.
Hearing racing footsteps coming up behind her, she tried to move faster, but went down in a heap, smothered by the man grabbing her from behind. She was roughly turned over, to face her attacker.
“Just where the hell you think you’re goin’?” Logan demanded, chest heaving. Her running away from him pained him, terribly. Seeing the shock of surprise on her face, it took a moment for him to realize she hadn’t known it was him coming after her.
Catching her breath, her heart still racing, she managed to pant out “Logan!” The relief that he was still here kind of made her light-headed. “Oh, thank God!” Then her eyes shot past his shoulder, widening, scared.
Logan, straddling her small form in the snowbank, didn’t have to look back to see just who it was. It was Stan. There was no mistaking it, he’d known it the minute the guy had screeched to a halt behind his own truck. Getting to Marie had forestalled dealing with him. But, yup, it was Stan all right – though the barrel of a shotgun pressed roughly against the side of Logan’s face was certainly an added element.

Hi, I'm Kwen. I'm the X-Men driver this month, and this will mostly be an eclectic mix of Wolverine/Rogue fics. Maybe a little of a few other pairings, but probably not a lot. And most of it will be Movieverse, though some of them have comic-only characters in them.
