Why this must be read: Because it's a twist on one of the standard setups of the fandom. If you spend any time in Hornblower movieverse fandom, you'll find dozens of fics "fixing" the end of the movie "Retribution." Most of them tend to follow a fairly common scenario; many of them are wonderful; a number of them have been rec'd here before. "To The End Of The Road" is different, and that's always fun to find.
Clotho presents the Hornblower-Kennedy friendship very much as it appears on-screen: intense and deeply rooted, and leaving it up to the observer to decide if there's slash there or not. I particularly love this Archie Kennedy: strong and stubborn and not overly burdened with blind devotion to the rules.
