Why this must be read: This is an adorably scatty series set during filming in which Billy figures out what everyone else has been clued in to a long time ago. There's funny dialogue, tender courtship, true friendship and just a wee touch of sparkly magic.
"I wonder. What did Sean mean when he said I was 'the last to know'? I can't imagine you going around announcing to everybody..."
Oh, is that what was bothering him earlier? I rolled onto my back and thought about it. "I guess..." I started, my voice cracking tiredly, "They probably all had theories about us. I think they could all tell..."
"Tell? How?"
I was quiet for so long that Billy jumped a little when I spoke again. He must have been dozing already. "Please don't think it's creepy, Bills, but I've thought before that we were meant, I mean really fated, to meet and be together. Meant for each other. Made for each other. Maybe the rest of the Fellowship just thinks so, too."
"Far as soulmates go, I suppose I could do worse than you."
Erk. "You're a hard man to be complimented by."
"Did ever I tell you that you're the loveliest person I've met in my life?"
"...No," I said, faintly, "You never did, that. Pullin' out all the stops..."
"That would be more like this," he snugged right up close, making the world around me seem to ripple with long-sought scent and touch, and kissed me until I couldn't possibly speak. Then he dropped off to sleep - his arms tight around me - as though his conscience were finally clear.
