Why this must be read: Now, the Serpentis fic I really want to be able to rec someday is the wonderful Pro Patria Mori, which is a gorgeous AU set at a public school in the 20s. But in the absence of an ending to that, I'm putting forward this story, which showcases Serpentis's talent for writing in the style of the period equally well. Particularly since it's something of an Agatha Christie pastiche. With Billy Boyd in the role of Hercule Poirot. And everyone else who shows up being equally well used.

Which is to say that if you haven't already read this and you like either AUs or Agatha Christie, you really ought to run right out and do so.

Why this must be read: Suede Scripture is perhaps best known for her rich Monaboyd AUs, but that's hardly all she's written - she's almost as fond of each of those boys with Elijah. I'm not here to rec any of the stories she's written about any of those pairings though. I'm interested in a likely one-off - a non-AU Billy/Orlando set post-filming.

Now, it's not just about the rareness of the pairing, though Billy/Orlando is certainly sparse on the ground. Nor the hotness of the sex (though that's pretty damn hot, as well). It's the organicness of the situation, the fact that it's honestly dark (darkly honest?), that it feels like it could have happened (though it's hardly likely it did).

Why this must be read: Everything Mira writes is beautiful, as I'm sure anybody who's spent any amount of time in this fandom knows. But some of the things she writes best are the complex webs of relationships that bind people together and their distant futures that most of us never imagine. This story is strong on both those counts and possessed of her usual marked depth of feeling to boot. There is death, yes - its aftereffects pervade the story, but that should not stop you reading. For, in the end, the message the story sends is one worth hearing - now, certainly, and always.

This started deliberately as a "My Two Hours with Karl Urban" challenge on karl_uncensored, but after jazzyjean burned our panties with her offering, we begged for more, and the female character shifted to a very real, very sexy OFC who is no kind of Mary Sue.

This is a hot and unforgettable ride and jazzyjean has both a wicked sense of humor and a fine touch for the erotic. At last count, there were 24 stories, with more to come.

Why this must be read:

It's so great to see two stubborn men butting heads when they really want to butt something else. This is an AU featuring Orlando as an aspiring model who meets Jake, a photographer, and ends up getting a job as his assistant when Livvie goes on maternity leave. The UST is kept quiet and to themselves, giving no hint to each other of the growing neediness until it all falls apart and they have to figure out why it hurts so much to be apart.

The storyline is gorgeous, the characters very well conceived, and the ending believable. I just love these characters.

Witness to a footchase after some sort of criminal, Sean soon after discovers the "real" world that's going on around him.

It's a beautifully original fic that just blew me away. From beginning to end a different sort of romance, a different meeting of hearts, along with a mind-blowing conceptual ending.

Poor Karl's love is unrequited. And who brings them together? God help us all - DENNIS HOPPER. This is not a joke. This is a VERY well written series of short stories that all form one arc. And Dennis is probably the best supporting character EVER.

Why this must be read:

Once you're in LOTR RPS awhile, you'll learn that there are a few one-degree removed real people who have sort of moved in and taken up residence with the rest of the crazies. One of these is Eric Bana. He was in Troy and Black Hawk Down with Orlando Bloom.

How is an early version of a roleplay fic, but I find myself reading this again and again, so I thought I'd give it a rec. Eric and Orlando wake up in a hotel room together. That's it. Hee! I just LOVE the internal voices - it makes it all worth while. The characters leap off the screen. And, well, it's flippin' HAWT too.

A taste to tempt you:

Orlando was blushing furiously and attempted to move off Eric, but the Australian's hand was quicker, moving up to rest loosely on the Brit's thigh. It stopped Orlando from going anywhere and Eric's tone was soothingly casual when he said: “Now, don't I recall correctly that I owe you a favour?” Brown eyes met equally dark ones again: “Got anything in mind?”

Orlando’s heart skipped a beat. Or maybe two. Or three. Or even four. He didn’t know. And he didn’t care either.

Got anything in mind? No. Not really. His mind had gone blank the moment Eric had rested his hands on his thigh. Warm, strong yet oh so gentle hands...The whole situation made his head spinning. And...

Had he heard what he thought he’d heard? Eric hadn’t just made him an unequivocal offer to...Yeah, what? A hand job? A blow job perhaps? Sex?

And now for something a little different. I started out in the fandom reading Viggorli, and I have since moved on. But some stories stick with you, and this is one of them.

The authors called it different. They weren't kidding about different. I don't think I've read anything quite like this before, the narration, the concept. It's...POWERFUL. Wow.


“Oh no,” she muttered as she blinked at the screen a few times, the scene becoming more clear. It was a young man sitting on a bed in a dimly lit room, just in his boxers. She gulped and he turned his head to look toward the camera almost as if he had heard her. A view of his face showed that he was young, probably only in his early twenties.

“Don’t,” he sighed in a low, velvety voice that sent shivers down the girl’s spine. He had a troubled look on his face, brows knit and lower lip between his teeth uncertainly. “Come on, don’t.”

He was long and lithe, knees up against his chest, arms wrapped tightly around himself. A pang of familiarity ran through the girl's body, but she couldn't quite place the young man.

His skull was nearly bare; the sides naked and the very top adorned with long curly mahogany hair. It would have looked silly on anyone else, but itjust added to the exotic quality of the man. His eyes were a deep brown, and though the video quality wasn't that great, she could tell he was flushing madly.

Hello, I'm sileya, and I'm your driver for Lord of the Rings Real People Slash this month. I've been in the fandom a few years now, reading, writing and rec'ing. Why this must be read:

If I am a sucker for anything, it's vampires. If I am currently obsessed with anything, it's Karl Urban. If I'm long-time enamored of anything, it's LOTR RPS. This story has all three, very clean writing, well-crafted characters that reach out and grab you, a sly humor, interesting angst-lite plot, a hell of a supporting cast (I adore Elijah as the token straight guy) and mind-blowing UST and sex. YUM of the highest order.

Even if you're not much for the whole vampire thing, this series is vamp lite. I highly recommend it for the passion, for the yearning, for the blasting hot sex. It's long, 30 chapters in part one alone, but oh so worth it.

There's a prologue series of stories called "Chosen". Then Claimed, for which the series in named. And then the Epilogue series, "Captivated," is icing on the cake. There have also been some one shots written since, including Orlando/Harry/Jake Gyllenhaal. (gah)

Why this must be read: This is one of my all-time favorite AUs. 16 chapters of "a wee little space opera in the classic style, with added Hobbity goodness", as Pip puts it. It has the special factor of being set before the events depicted in Billy's awesome short film 'Sniper 470'. It's a fully fleshed-out science fiction saga, with wars, villains, and space ships - and, of course, a beautiful pair of lovers at the center.

Why this must be read: Wing!fic is a very peculiar subgenre in Lotrips fandom - sadly the archive where you could find most of the stories is no longer around. Still, this is the story that got me, with its dreamlike fairy tale atmosphere. Just beautiful.

Billy never let go of Dominic’s hand as they rose into the air, leading him high above the forest behind their home. Dominic laughed as they flew, the sound high and light and full of all the joy he couldn’t contain inside, and he looked to Billy again and again, letting his love show plain on his face. The feeling of being so far above the ground, propelled by his own power (and the reassuring presence of Billy’s firm grip) transcended his happiness to euphoria. He felt like he could hold the moonlight in his hand.

Why this must be read: Not the most popular of threesomes (I'll be sure to rec a Fucksome Trio fic at some point), this totally blew me away - the whole atmosphere of it had the feel of a moonlit night, with stars shining in the water... Quiet, and peaceful, and unavoidable. Gorgeous.

The paths they walk down all meet in one spot, a merging of pavement, concrete and nature just a block away from Orlando’s house, and somehow – by some divine guiding force – this meeting place is calling out to them, making them find their way to each other.

It turns them from passing ships in the night to a safe haven that they find in each other.
