First Do No Harm trilogy by Nostalgia (PG to PG-13)

Fandom: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: Bashir/Ezri, Garak/Bashir
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj
Author Website: Nostalgia for an age yet to come
Why this must be read:

Three short pieces which outline a possible path for Julian Bashir after What You Leave Behind. Like much of Nostalgia's writing, the prose is spare, even terse, and Nostalgia cleverly leads the reader to construct their own version of the story which lies between the lines. I particularly enjoyed the spot-on voice for Garak in 'An Apple A Day', probably the strongest of the three. Biologists amongst us might have to close our eyes once a twice, but that's an endearing trait of much Trek canon.

At 3am he's still staring at the computer screen.

“There’s a quaint little tradition here on Earth, called sleep.”

He keeps his eyes on the swirling molecules on the screen. “Is there?”

“And I spent three hours this morning cleaning out the guest room. I even did hospital corners.”

Dinner, on a summer evening on Deep Space Nine with your former lover, his current lover and their child. One of the overlooked pleasures in life, I've always felt. Those amusing little moments when no one knows quite what to say or where to look, pretending to give a damn about other people's children. Very stimulating on an intellectual level.
