Bring Out Your Dead by Apathy (PG-13)
Fandom: X-MEN MOVIEVERSE
Pairing: Scott Summers, Jean Grey, and gen
Author on LJ:
apathocles
Author Website: I don't think there is one
Why this must be read: Jean comes back after Alkali Lake, but she comes back all wrong. But this Wrong!Jean/Phoenix possesses a simplicity that is almost child-like and innocent (which contributes to the creepiness). What the X-Men cannot bear to bring themselves to do creates a limbo world. Morbid, fascinating, messy, and well-constructed.
The mansion rattles for days afterwards, cutlery shaking its way across the dining-room table, the toasters seeming to melt in upon themselves like a bunch of DalĂ rejects.
Okay, so this is a really short excerpt, except it's my favorite line in the piece and I had to share.
