Why this must be read: Watching the Clark/Lex relationship unfold and fall apart on Smallville is hard. Sometimes I need to rewind to a more simple time, and see things as they might have gone. This story does just that, as it's set mid season three. Writing a story using flashbacks interspersed with the present can be tricky, but Estrella has mastered it beautifully. Lex and Clark's relationship has suddenly taken a decidedly new track, and we experience it in Clark's memories as he faces Lex the day after. Aftermaths are often awkward, but is this going to be a good thing or a bad thing? Hot, hot sex, and a strong and resolute Clark just add to the many reasons why I love this story.
Clark slips past the guards and avoids the servants and castle staff, and wonders belatedly if today, the day after last night, he maybe should have knocked at the door like a regular person. Stood there on the steps and waited to be announced and then led through the halls like a dim student following a teacher or a puppy on a leash. Clark thinks that maybe he and Lex might have needed that today - the formality - and then he thinks how funny it is that the memory of Lex on his knees with his lips wrapped around Clark's dick the night before has somehow made things more "formal."
