Why this must be read:

One of them is a tragic soul who has sent thousands into death and carries the burden of their memories in his mind... and the other one's a Stykera.

I have seriously mixed feelings about Lexx; at its best it was brilliant satire, and at its worst it was just plain embarrassing. But no matter the episode, Kai was always a fascinating character, and introducing him to Stark is one of those ideas that seems simultaneously an incredibly obvious and an incredibly ingenious thing to do. The result, in Labingi's hands, is a meeting that leads to reflections on life and death and loss and hope, in voices that are spot-on for both of them.

An excerpt:
"Prince found me fascinating," Kai told him, "because I was the one person he could not hurt."

"Why not?"

"The dead do not feel pain," Kai answered automatically.

"I wish that were true," said Stark just above a whisper.

Kai thought of the souls being tortured on Fire. "I did not feel pain," he amended. "The dead -- I -- did not have wants. Yet I did want one thing: to be truly dead. And Prince exploited that weakness." The dead are easily fooled, he thought.

"I don't think it's a weakness," said Stark sadly.
