A Little East of Normal by Cccarioca (NC-17)
Hey, I'm Lenore, and I'll be your
crack_van driver for Supernatural for the merry month of March. I'm going to start with a few stories that date back to the first days of the fandom, because they got me hooked on the show and I'm guessing that not everyone has read them. As a general note, I'll be recc'ing both slash and gen stories along the way.
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Author on LJ:
cccarioca
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read: This is one of the very first Supernatural stories I read, and it had me at hello. Sam and Dean are on the mend and out of cash, so Dean turns to an old friend who gives them jobs and a place to crash. At the gay sex club he owns, that is. The author does a great job creating a sense of atmosphere and an original character who's very likeable. Sam is kind of petulant, much as he was in the early days of the show, and it's satisfying to see him gain some perspective by the end. The Sam/Dean relationship is handled in a way that makes sense and is rather touching. If you've ever fantasized about Dean working in a gay bathhouse, this story is for you!
Go read and give the author some love:

p.s I noticed you said you'd rec "slash and gen" but make no mention of het. Reason numero uno why I love this fandom. The slash is more canon than het ^.^

Re: your P.S. Hee! It really is a fandom where het is hard to do right. The only things I've read that worked for me were either threesomes or the het was a prelude to the real Sam/Dean action.
