Why this must be read:
This story won't mean much unless you've already read the novel Ethan of Athos, and probably Cetaganda, too. I was predisposed to like it because it features a reluctant Ivan thrown into a hot situation. I also like that it's gen, rather somber in tone, and yet it's got enough action to be exciting.
