Losing Sleep by Mer/ Stakebait (NC-17)

Pairing: Gregor Vorbarra/Mark Vorkosigan

Why this must be read:
This story is a rec with caveat--it's only going to appeal to those who can read a story containing graphic torture. I can't say that Gregor-as-sadist is impossible given his heritage, but it's not going to be credible to everyone. No complaints, please. You've been warned.
Now, the reason I am rec'ing this even though I am not a big fan of S&M stories? The characterization of Mark is so compelling. Also, Mer's Gregor works in this situation. It's also a rare pairing.

It worked for me because it's completely the opposite direction from what everyone else does with it, while remaining completely true to the characters; I'm a big fan of writers who do that. But it's the sort of thing that only works because Mark gets off on it; the joy of language is they could be talking about car repair and as long as they got off on it, it would be a turn on through their eyes.

Yes, the direction Mer chose was a real change, wasn't it? AU, but so believable in context of the canon family history.
