Z-48 by Jane Terry (NC17)

Jane Terry has a knack for tumbling Napoleon and Illya into bed through scenarios that, at first glance, appear utterly implausible, but the longer you read, become completely believable. “Z-48” is just such a story, and since I seem to be stuck on “for the sake of the mission, we must have sex” stories right now, here's the ultimate example.

Why this must be read:

For a man like Napoleon Solo who’s no stranger to using seduction in order to get information and do his job, a "honey pot" operation shouldn’t be a problem to undertake. However, when the assignment he’s drawn involves a man, and Napoleon’s never had a same-sex experience, the only way he can assume his undercover role without exposing himself as an agent is to learn how to have sex with a man. Where Illya comes in…well, you’ll just have to read to find out.



Illya smiled but looked uncertain. "You'll have to give me some direction here."

"Yes...Lou gave me some idea of what we need to do." He sat on the opposite side of the bed and faced Illya. He took a deep breath. "He told me...I need to get used to some things: being naked around another man, touching another man, having another man touch me. It's necessary so I don't come across as self-conscious when I'm with Andre."

"That makes sense."

"And that means that...I'm going to be touching you...and you're going to be touching me." He saw Illya turn red as he spoke. He took a deep breath. "I think the first thing we need to do is to get naked."

"All right." Illya took off the robe and laid it aside.

I love this story. I love Napoleon in this, strong and vulnerable, confident and hesitant. I just love it.

Absolutely! And the fact that it's a young Napoleon who isn't yet the very model of a super agent that we know in the series is also what makes it so compelling.

Yes, this is a favorite! Napoleon's situation has him uncertain; I love that. It seems to balance out his and Illya's relationship more.

I also love the process that both Napoleon and Illya go through independently and decide that it is absolutely worth it (i.e., Napoleon's what kind of organization would ask you to kill?, and Illya's desire to stop senseless deaths). It totally makes an unlikely seeming scenario wholly believable.
