Closer to Breathing by Jenn (NC-17)
Yes! It's my turn to rec Smallville! The show is pretty, but I'm here for the fiction, and the sheer talent in this fandom just staggers me. So let's go!
Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ:
seperis
Author website: Illuminated Text
Why this must be read:
Jenn's been recc'd from here to eternity, with good reason. She's an incredible writer. I'd love to say, "Here's her website. Go read EVERYTHING.", but since that would probably be frowned upon, I'm choosing Closer to Breathing, which is the first of her stories I ever read. The premise is simple: Set in the first season, Lex gives a Christmas party and only Clark gets the message Lex is trying to send to the town. He leaves, Lex follows with brandy, smut ensues.
And yet. The build-up is slow, the descriptions are vivid and lush. Her Clark is exactly in-character; we feel his initial frustration and hurt, the goofiness from the brandy he drinks with Lex, the rush of freedom when he decides to take a chance. Her Lex is absolutely perfect; all edges and reserve and repressed pain, determined not to let himself take what he wants until he absolutely can't resist. It's brilliantly done.
Plus the sex will melt your screen. Everybody wins.
Check it out and let her know how much she rocks:
