Complicated by Lacey McBain (PG-13)

Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Lex/Bruce Wayne, pre-slash Lex/Clark

Why this must be read:

I read most of the Smallville fanfiction out there before I ever saw an episode of the show and when I finally began watching the DVDs, I kept waiting for Bruce to show up. He's in dozens of stories. He went to school with Lex at Excelsior Prep, they were friends, they shared disaffected rich-boy angst. Everyone knows this. Obviously, Bruce had to be a canon character. But, so sadly for me, no. Sometimes life is unfair.

Lacey's Bruce remains my favorite incarnation of Smallville Bruce Wayne. This is the first Smallville-based story in Lacey's Shadows and Stone Universe, but I highly suggest you read them all, starting here. Her Bruce is protective and gorgeous and completely screwed up, and of course, Clark hates him on sight. With reason. The way Lacey writes him? Frankly, I don't know if Clark has a chance with Lex. You have to read to find out what happens; I'm not going to tell.

Go read and let Lacey know how awesome she is. *g*

Complicated

Oh, thank you so much! My stuff often gets caught in-between DC and Smallville, so it's really nice to get a rec here. I'm always thrilled to hear people like this series, and definitely when my summer calms down a bit, I'll be back to catching up on "Six."

Oh, Sweet Lacey certainly did her best to replace the apppeal of the Clex with that of the Brex in her "Shadows and Stone" Universe! Yet, she still manages to show sympathy for Clark and his teenage jealousy. But the Brex is hot, strong, "complicated", and so much more than lust and youthful experimentation (though it is a little bit of that too). And the whole relationship unfolds so well through the different stages of the universe from childhood stories in "Beginnings" to future fics. Those two characters work so well together when Lacey writes them!
