Why this must be read:

This is one of my favorite stories in the fandom. It's Clark in the early days of becoming Superman. He's still in college, he's interning at The Daily Planet, he's saving little kids, he's in a relationship with Lex, he's trying to be a good son...

It all adds up in one day, until Clark has a bit of a panic attack, but who could blame him? I love Lex in this story, too. The way he takes care of Clark makes me so happy and squeeful.

"It took you long enough."

There are more and more ungrateful near-victims every day. Superman shifts the woman in his arms as they fly away from the would-be rapist, who is unconscious and bound to a tree, awaiting the police.

"It was a close shave," Superman agrees non-commitally, mentally calculating how quickly he can get the woman to a sexual assault crisis centre without making her even more afraid.

"I called out for you for almost five minutes! He had me pinned!" She is shrieking in his ear, hysteria evident in the iron grip of her fingers, which is so strong as to make Superman almost feel pain.
