Close Enough by Sori (NC-17)

Hi all! I'm [livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills and I'll be driving for NCIS this month. I'm mostly into Gibbs/DiNozzo, so you'll be seeing a lot of that, but I wanted to try to be at least a little representative of the fandom, so I'll be throwing in some gen fic and a few recs from other pairings, too.

Why this must be read:

I desperately love stories in which the boys are settled down and just enjoying life together. However, in order to be good, such stories must walk the fine, fine line between being PWPs (which is not bad, but also not the point) and being drippingly sugary, out of character schlock. It's particularly difficult to manage this when the two men involved are a man like Gibbs (who must have relationship issues, given how many times he's been married and divorced) and Tony (who said himself that he has so many short term, meaningless relationships that he can't even remember most of them).

Sori walks this fine line perfectly. Her Gibbs and Tony are spot on in character. The mood of the fic is understated and the depth of feeling Gibbs and Tony have for each other seeps through almost subconsciously, so that by the end of the story you're grinning to yourself at how very married they are.

On top of all of that, this story isn't just a well written domestic bliss story. It's also a turning point in Gibbs and Tony's relationship. But that turning point isn't announced with the compositional equivalent of blaring horns. Instead it has a sort of gentle inevitability that underlines the idea that yes, these two men really do belong together.
