Why this story must be read:
This is Godzilla as a metaphor for Doctor Who, all forty-ish years of canon. All of the characters are spot-on (the Tegan and Adric bickering is especially great), and the set up and carry-through are both fantastic. Thus far, I've tried to recommend stories accessible for everyone, but this is one that works best if you have some sort of familiarity with the old school episodes.
"Well, judging by the look of things, I've materialized us in a cinema," the voice that might be the Doctor remarked, an undercurrent in the voice suggesting a sort of good-natured dread at the prospect of his companions resuming speech.
"What's a cinema?"
"A cinema?! You want to explain to me how you set the coordinates for Heathrow in the 1980s and end up in a bloody cinema?"
"Shhh!"
"Tegan, please keep your voice down. There's a movie on."
