Under a Haystack by Emily Brunson (PG-13)

Why this must be read: "Dean and/or Sam wake up different" -- as girls, as supernatural creatures, as various forms of livestock -- is pretty much the start of a lot of plots of Supernatural fan fiction, when you boil them down. But this is one of the very best takes on that, in which Dean wakes up one day as his seven-year-old self. Yeah, sure, now he's a charmer, but this Dean is a troubled little boy prone to throwing fits and cursing like a sailor.
This story's more than that, though -- it hurts. Poor Dean, who is a confused and angry boy who just wants his daddy and has a hard time reconciling our Sam with the little brother he knows and loves. Poor Sam, who has no idea how to take care of the one person who's always taken care of him best. Poor John, who doesn't know how to react to this situation and responds just as awkwardly and badly as expected.
