The Great Yukon, Douglas Fir, Double-Telescoping Bank Shot by Loz (G)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Refs to Bob/Caroline, Buck/Bob

Why this must be read:
Usually, fics containing Bob focus on his relationship with Benton and Buck rarely appears at all. But while Bob Fraser may be an ornery ghost and Sergeant Frobisher have a gas problem now, a few decades earlier they stood across a canyon and one of them made an impossible shot, winning the love of the woman they rescued.
This is a great snapshot of an earlier time in the characters' lives. The choice of Buck's point of view to retell this canon referenced event works well. This fic captures the banter between Buck and Bob, and gives a good offscreen presence for Caroline. The humour of the story just edges the poignancy of knowing the canon fates of the characters.
“No, I’m trying to get you in the right position to make the shot. I want Caroline to be safe, remember.” There was urgency in his voice.
Buck did as requested. He knew that, when push came to shove, he could make the shot. He knew that, when push came to shove, Bob could make the shot. He made the decision right then and there. Either he decided to spin a lie and ensure that his friend was miserable for the rest of his life, or he decided to spin a lie and ensure that he was miserable for the rest of his life.
He knew that there was really only one choice.
