Why this must be read:

Sara's entrance to CSI took place in the second episode; she was brought in by Grissom to do an internal investigation of Warrick's misconduct in leaving a crime scene. While he was gambling, a young rookie was shot and later died. Needless to say, Warrick and Sara didn't exactly get off on the right foot.

But over the series, they've developed a very good working relationship. They're both highly dedicated, extremely intelligent people who complement each other well. Blurring the lines of that relationship and putting them together in fanfic is entirely feasible. And really hot.

One thing J9 takes into account is the fact that Sara's feelings for Grissom are canon, with some of the most explicit personal scenes on CSI. His response to them ("Sara...I don't know what to do about this") is open to interpretation.

This story manages to skillfully blend Warrick and Sara as more-than-friends, with Warrick perhaps hoping for something more but realizing that with Sara, that isn't going to happen. It's a post-ep for season 2's "Burden of Proof," (transcript) but again, you don't need to be familiar with the episode to understand the fic.
