Why this must be read:

Unlike other television series, especially those aired from the 1980s onward, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was not an ensemble show. Besides Solo and Kuryakin, the only other character who rated extended screen time was their superior, Mr. Alexander Waverly.

And yet, particularly in episodes set within the steel fortress, the so-called “chrome and gunmetal madhouse” that was U.N.C.L.E. HQ New York, we glimpsed in the background all sorts of interesting folks, “support” personnel, who also worked for the U.N.C.L.E. organization.

This is a short piece featuring one of those people. His name is Mitch and his actual job title is never given. But on one clear night in Los Angeles, his brand of support is sorely needed by Solo and Kuryakin as they teeter on the edge of a dark abyss.

Fittingly, the story is told in first person in a smoky, world-weary, film noir voice worthy of Raymond Chandler.

The author [livejournal.com profile] lazy_neutrino has written for other fandoms, but this is her first contribution to MFU.

All I can say is: write more.
