Pouncing on People by Maryavatar (R)

I'm going to be your tour guide/driver through the Andromeda fandom for October. We're a small fandom, and most of us either know or have heard of each other (at least in LJ-space, or those affiliated with [livejournal.com profile] maryavatar's Andromeda Uncovered website and mailing list.) Sadly, the fandom fizzled out toward the end of the third season, with only a few diehards continuing to write and/or rec stories. Hopefully I can do my part to drum up interest in this fandom.

Speaking of Maryavatar, I decided that the first story/series I was going to rec would be her "Pouncing on People."

Fandom: ANDROMEDA
Pairing: Harper/Tyr
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maryavatar
Author Website: Amused and Abused
Why this must be read:

The most common portrayal of Tyr in fanfic is as a odd cross between Klingon and Vulcan. Tyr is shown as dominant, aggressive, and only interested in procreative sex, even in the slash fics (where it's explained as either "practice" or a "dominance" thing.)

Maryavatar takes a slightly different tack with "Pouncing on People." In the story, (a short series of linked PWP ficlets) Nietszcheans have a genetic predisposition to being attracted to certain useful survival traits such as intelligence, regardless of the sex of the individual they're attracted to--and Harper is a genius.

What results is a game of cat and mouse with Tyr pouncing on Harper, and Harper not minding very much. This story manages to be cute and funny, with a few brief bouts of seriousness, because even a light PWP needs to deal with Harper's backstory, IMO.

*goes bright red*

Y'know, this was only my second ever slash fic. I haven't been able to read any of my early stuff for years, most of it makes me go "ARGH". I remember getting such a kick out of writing PoP I was dizzy. OMG, I am such an old jaded writer now!

Hee, I *loved* this one.

I just tried to reread it. I got about halfway down the page before I started going 'eek! eek!"' and had to close the window. I am such an anal dork sometimes.

I've always thought I made a better muse than a writer :)

So you're interested in getting people interested? Well then. >:3
Hi! I'm new. Corrupt me.
In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure I caught most of the first two season before I went off to university and no-cable-land. I've only just rediscovered the series, thanks to Viridian5 and her addicted writing of two other fandoms I like. (I went to her website following the trail of fic, saw her Andromeda section, decided to poke it to see if I remembered it at all, and next thing I knew I'd read everything she had up.)

In other words, I don't know everyone, or where to go for more fic. Any help you feel like giving the newbie would be appreciated... and help me addict my friend, who I already hooked with a few screencaps. >:D

Thank you! :D
Got to say, I'm not into Stargate at all, but I've been looking for Andromeda/Babylon 5 fic... *shrugs*

Don't I know it. If I weren't so fuzzy on both series right now, I'd write it myself or try to. I suspect if I did it would turn into a long rambling explanation of how the time-travel escapades possible in each series have combined to make this, Beka getting into Ivanova's pants, and Harper bonding with Garibaldi over ancient cartoons and way too much sugar.
