Why this must be read:
For my contribution to crossover day, I'm recc'ing Joyfulgirl's Smallville/Highlander crossover, “Things We Cannot Change.” This story has a very special place in my heart. I had been a fan of the Highlander franchise for years, but it was Smallville that brought me to slash so this was the first story I ever read featuring Duncan and Methos. In fact, I was such a baby slasher at the time I believe it was the very first crossover I ever read, and it basically made my brain explode with the sheer goodness of it all. This story can be enjoyed by fans of either show, but if you love them both it is a sheer delight. They are two great tastes that go great together. This is not one of those crossovers that seem forced. Joyfulgirl cleverly uses two pieces of existing Smallville canon to seamlessly bring Clark and Lex into the immortal universe.

Besides the obvious hotness of seeing two of the sexiest characters ever created getting it on, this story is also wonderful for it’s wry humor (including everyone’s favorite line about Clark marking Lex *g*), and it’s sweet romance.

In these troubling times of Lex torture and Clark angst, reading “Things We Cannot Change” is a welcome return to happier more innocent time for the Clex. Sorry if this turned out sounding like more of a Smallville rec. Rest assured, Duncan and Methos play an integral part.
