Doctor Who/Harry Potter (R)
Title: Light, and the Stars Beyond by Casira
Pairing: Tenth Doctor/Remus Lupin
Author on LJ:
casirafics
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:
If we learnt nothing else from Tooth and Claw, it's that the Tenth Doctor truly is a Pervy Werewolf fancier. And the Harry Potter fandom has always had a strong connection with Doctor Who, what with the shared British actor pool, and at times the similar sensibilities (plus, JK Rowling was asked to write for the new series, but she turned it down due to other commitments)
That said, despite the obvious crack fic connotations, this is far from that. Instead, it's a beautiful, lyrical fic as two lonely men who have lost their worlds find a little bit of comfort in someone who understands. Sad, and beautiful (and also really quite, quite hot). the characterisation is lovely.
As the Doctor watched, astonished, sparks rose into a perfect cloud of autumn constellations. Each miniature star gleamed, bright and precise -- and then they spread, fast multiplying. Soon there were milky bands of galaxies, the flares of supernovas, hazy nebulas and the rise of planets. The universe was spreading out above them, light by light by light.
The Doctor lifted one finger to brush the tail of a comet, feeling it shimmer. "More things in heaven and earth..." he whispered.
Remus moved to sit beside him on the bed. "So," he said softly. "Does that matter?"
The Doctor looked at him, then back up at the impossible stars. They were moving, revealing more and more of the sky. Eventually they'd get there. Eventually Remus would see. He took a deep breath, and made his decision.
"What were their names?" the Doctor said, without turning his head. "The ones you lost."
"James," he heard, as if from a long distance. They'd left the Milky Way by now. They were worlds away and gone. "Lily. Peter." There was a ragged breath. "Sirius." He went almost silent. "And there's Harry."
The Doctor leaned closer, grateful for the warmth as he pointed to an empty space in the sky.
"There's mine," he whispered.
Remus let go of the wand, reached over, and took his hand. And there in the midst of the broken universe, they sat together silently for a long, long time.
