Meet Clarice Farrell, a sheltered, awkward young woman who desperately wants to be more interesting, and thinks that hanging with the cool kids will help her discover "where it's at". Enter two beyond-cool UNCLE agents who must escort her safely to her father in New York City, with Thrush in close pursuit. Along the way, a confused, resentful and frequently terrified Clarice discovers reserves of courage and strength, thanks to the examples in front of her.

It's great fun seeing Napoleon and Illya through Clarice's eyes, too. They let their guard down to reassure her, bantering and teasing, and their honest affection for each other is a beacon of revelation by which Clarice confronts her fears and conditioning, and chooses what to believe for herself.

Isn't there a Clarice inside most of us? We should all be so lucky to have a pair of UNCLE agents around to show us where it's at.

Oh, yes, this has always been a favorite. I love stories told from another's POV. The scene when she sees them before the fire and realizes what they are to each other is wonderful.
