Why this must be read:
Peace is a rare fic. I think it's one ofquigonejinn's best, which is saying something, but it's a fic which is so well connected to the characters that the author and the author's style fade into the background. There are few stories in fandom which capture the sense of long life and shared hardship that is written in the Hornblower books; this one does.
It's an AU, a should-have-been, and it's perfectly, wrenchingly believeable. It's a story about how a lifelong friendship can be broken by death, and how love can't.
