Why this must be read: The show definitely plays with the idea that Gibbs runs deep, and that what's under the surface isn't always nice. This vignette runs with that idea, giving Gibbs an interestingly dark edge that makes him both playful and kinda nasty. Assuming, of course, that a single word out of Tony's mouth can be believed, which is the whole point of this wonderful fic. Unreliable narrators are so much fun.
