Why this story must be read:
New Life is one of my all time favorite stories by one of my favorite authors. This story is another take on a possible future for Michael and Nikita, this one written before S4 and so it launches from a different point.
Kate has a lovely way of taking the ordinary and making it real and beautiful, conveying worlds of hurt and pain with a simple gesture or a gentle look.
On Kate's author page in the LFN archive, you can find both a prequel (written later) and a sequel - I like both, but this one is the one I re-read.
